Wetlands of international importance are also known as Ramsar sites.

World Wetland’s Day is celebrated on 2nd February each year.

At the centre of the Ramsar philosophy is the “wise use” of wetlands. Wise use means Maintenance of ecological character within the context of sustainable development.

Why Wetlands are known as Ramsar Sites?

Ramsar is a city in Iran. In 1971, an international treaty for the conservation and sustainable use of wetlands was signed at Ramsar.
