Classification of antimicrobial drugs according to their type of action, spectrum of activity and mechanism of action

Classification of antimicrobials is based on their type of action on microbes kill or reduce the number, spectrum of activity i.e can work on specific microbes or multiple microbes , mechanism of action on microbe cells to kill or stop growth.

Antimicrobial drugs are the chemical agents which either kill or reduce the growth of specific microorganisms in human body.

Antimicrobials are divided

1. According to Type of action of the Drug

2. According to Spectrum of activity of the drug

3. According to the mechanism of action of the drug.
